He graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA in 1998, earning a scholarship to Georgia Perimeter College. Two years later, in tenth grade, Gucci Mane was robbed at gunpoint, so he began carrying a firearm for protection. He was a good student and popular with the class. He says he used the Christmas money he received in eighth grade to buy his first stash of crack cocaine.
As a result of his upbringing, Gucci followed in his father’s footsteps to become a drug dealer in high school. Gucci Mane moved to Atlanta with his mother in 1989, settling in a high-crime, low-income area of the city. Gucci Mane found his love for rap early in life after his half-brother bought him a ticket to watch a live show featuring the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and LL Cool J. His grandmother raised him while his mother attended college in an attempt to better herself. His father got in trouble with the law selling crack cocaine and heroin to support the family. Gucci Maneīorn on February 12, 1980, in Bessemer, Alabama, Radric Delantic Davis is the son of a social worker, Ralph Everett Dudley, and Vicky Jean Davis, a school teacher. He’s also the head of the ‘New 1017’ record label and responsible for bringing up many contemporary artists of the last decade. The rapper grew from the experience, turning over a new leaf to focus on his music. Gucci Mane added to his reputation in the trap rap community after being convicted and sent to prison.
